Our Mission

The following Statement of Purpose was adopted by Session (church governing board):

As a community of believers, our calling is to worship and enjoy God, to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through love, service and teaching, guided by the Scriptures and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

First Presbyterian Church of Babylon has a growing need to develop the strong Christian Education program to which we are committed, with an emphasis on our children and youth. We endeavor to inspire and witness to the community, to have concern and charity outside the church, responding to local, national, and global needs. We are open and ready for what God has in store for us.

We are known as a congregation which strives to be led by the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit. We believe that we are called to a life of Christian action, not just Christian thought. This is God's church, and it is in His world that we want joyously to serve Him. We are open and ready for what God, through Scriptures and the Holy Spirit can show us about His will in the coming years for our church's ministry of compassion and healing to a broken and needy world.

We believe the Bible is the authoritative word of God and is our basis for preaching, teaching, and living. We believe it is our responsibility to equip our members to be witnesses and to testify of their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and, through daily prayer and study of Scripture, look to Him for direction and the power to carry out His will. We reaffirm our need to meet together as a community of believers to worship God. We accept the challenge of our Lord to "go into all the world and preach the gospel."
